December has arrived and the chill has hit the air, it is now a perfect time to start working on making all the delicious items from our 2013 Holiday Recipe Guide. Our Recipe Guide is free and available at most health stores across Western Canada! We spent most of the fall testing all these recipes ourselves and making sure they are delightful treats to serve to your family and friends over this holiday season.

The recipe below was one of our favourites: a gluten free recipe for sugar cookies made with almost all organic ingredients! This gluten free recipe tastes just as delicious as the classic recipe, simple substitutions for an amazing treat.

Our Organic All Purpose Gluten Free Flour mix contains Guar Gum to make the baking process easier in the kitchen. Our mix takes advantage of the different properties of each ingredient, instead of relying on a single type of flour to attempt to simulate the texture and flavour of wheat flour. This mix is prepared in our Vancouver warehouse to save you the time and the mess of doing it at home! It is a combination of Organic White Rice Flour, Organic Potato Starch and Organic Tapioca Flour with added Guar Gum. This classic gluten free blend makes it easy to bake a wide range of pastry and bakery recipes.

We will also be using our Organic Cane Sugar from Brazil for the sugar in this recipe. Organic cane sugar retains more of the sugar cane nutrients than refined white sugar. As long as it is used sparingly, dried cane juice is a natural source of sweetness that can be a part of a healthy diet. Organic cane sugar is a healthy alternative to refined sugar, made by simply filtering and crystallizing organic cane juice. It can be used just as one would white sugar in baking.

Westpoint Ingredients

  • 1 cup of Organic Cane Sugar
  • 1 Vanilla Bean (pod)
  • 2 1/2 cups of Organic All Purpose Gluten Free Flour Mix
  • 1/2 teaspoon of Fine Sea Salt
  • 1 teaspoon of Corn & Wheat Free Baking Powder

Other Ingredients

  • 1 cup of Butter, softened
  • 1 Egg


1) Cream together butter and sugar.
2) Cut vanilla bean in half and scrape out seeds. Add eggs and vanilla seeds to butter mixture and beat well.
3) Combine flour, salt, and baking powder in a separate bowl. Slowly stir into butter mixture.
4) Cover dough and refrigerate for 1 hour or overnight.
5) Preheat oven to 350°F.
6) Dust counter top and rolling pin with rice flour. Roll out dough to about 1/4” thick.
7) Cut into shapes and place on parchment paper lined baking sheets.
8) Bake 8-12 minutes, until cookies have just begun to brown. Let stand on baking sheet for 5 minutes, and then remove to rack to cool completely.
9) Decorate as desired. Have fun!
