Rye is a cereal crop grown extensively for food and forage. It is closely related to barley and wheat, yet it is longer, slender and contains a higher concentration of soluble fibre. Rye varies in colour from yellow-brown to olive green.

  • Ingredients

    Organic Rye grain.

  • Directions

Rinse 1 cup grain. Add 2 cups boiling water in a pot and cover. Reduce to simmer and cook 45 minutes or until tender and liquid is absorbed. It can also be cooked as you would with rice in rice cooker.

  • Uses

Cooked rye kernels can be served as a side dish alternative to rice or pasta, or as a stuffing for poultry or roast vegetables.

  • Storage

When stored in a cool (preferably less than 60˚F) and dry location (less than 65% humidity), shelf life is approximately 9 months. Store away from perfumed products, soaps, detergents, cleaning solutions, or any other such chemicals.
