Kelp salt is a combination of fine sea salt and kelp powder. But to begin with, what exactly is kelp?

Kelp is a type of seaweed and staple ingredient in Japanese, Korean and Chinese cuisines. Although it is only gaining popularity in the West recently, kelp has been named a ‘Superfood’ due to its impressive health benefits. It is rich in iodine – a trace mineral found in sea water that promotes a healthy thyroid and weight loss. Eating foods rich in iodine can enhance metabolism and support cognitive function. Apart from that, kelp also contains other vitamins and minerals that are essential for lowering cholesterol levels, regulating blood sugar, detoxifying and building strong bones.

Kelp salt is a great replacement of regular table salt. You can add it to your eggs, avocados, potatoes and many other savoury dishes for a boost in nutrition and flavour. Because it is so rich in minerals, kelp is also commonly used in skin care products including soaps, lotions and bath salts. Combined with heat, kelp can penetrate through the skin to draw out impurities and detoxify your body. By removing toxins, a relaxing kelp salt bath may also allow you to lose weight more effectively!

Westpoint Ingredients

  • Kelp Sea Salt, to taste
  • Organic Ground Black Pepper, to taste

Other Ingredients

  • 1 Avocado
  • 2 Slices of Toast
  • A sprinkle of Furikake
  • 1 Egg (Optional)


1) Cut avocado into slices or mash into paste.
2) Top slices of toast with avocado. Add kelp salt, black pepper and furikake to taste. (Furikake is a dry Japanese seasoning that typically consists of a mixture of dried fish, seaweed, sesame seeds, sugar and salt. You can find them in various supermarkets!)
3) Include egg if desired. Enjoy!
