  • Description

Basmati rice is hailed by many as the world’s best rice. This is a fragrant long-grained rice, from which the hulls, bran and germ have been removed. Cooked grains of Basmati rice are characteristically free-flowing rather than sticky.

  • Directions

Rinse 1 cup rice and add to 2 1/2 cups water. Bring to a boil, stir, cover, and simmer gently for 20-25 minutes.

  • Uses

Rice is a multifunctional grain: it can be steamed, boiled, or fried as a side dish, or used for stuffing, pudding, pilaf and risotto. For variety, try adding onions, mushrooms, soy sauce or other ingredients to the rice before cooking.

  • Storage

Unopened bags of rice should be stored off the floor in a dry, clean place. Rice keeps well at room temperature and has a recommended shelf life of 12 months.
