Basmati rice is hailed by many as the world’s best rice. This is a fragrant long-grained rice, from which the hulls, bran and germ have been removed. Cooked grains of Basmati rice are characteristically free-flowing rather than sticky.

Directions
Rinse 1 cup rice and add to 2 1/2 cups water. Bring to a boil, stir, cover, and simmer gently for 20-25 minutes.

Uses
Rice is a multifunctional grain: it can be steamed, boiled, or fried as a side dish, or used for stuffing, pudding, pilaf and risotto. For variety, try adding onions, mushrooms, soy sauce or other ingredients to the rice before cooking.

Storage
Unopened bags of rice should be stored off the floor in a dry, clean place. Rice keeps well at room temperature and has a recommended shelf life of 12 months.
