  • Ingredients

Organic whole barley grain, with only the inedible spikelet removed.

  • Directions

Combine 1 part barley to 3 parts water in a small saucepan. Bring to a boil, then simmer for 1 hour.

You can also use barley to make a nutritious, hot grain coffee, spread it on a pan, then toast at 400ºF for 1 –1/2 hours or until it is richly brown. Stir every 20 minutes to roast evenly. When done, grind it in a blender to the consistency desired. Use as one would with regular coffee to achieve desired strength or flavour.

    Instant Pot:
Place 1 cup barley, 1 cup water, 1 tablespoon oil/butter/ghee/coconut oil, and 1 teaspoon salt into the stainless steel insert of your Instant Pot. Secure the lid on the pot. Set the Instant Pot at High pressure for 15 minutes. When cooking time is complete, let pot release pressure naturally for 10 minutes, and then release the pressure with the quick release. Use cooked barley as you would rice or oatmeal, in salads, for breakfast, and all kinds of recipes.

  • Uses

Barley groats provides a chewy texture and rich nutty flavour to soups, stews, broth, pilafs, and vegetable stuffing. They also make a great side dish as an alternative to rice or pasta, and any leftovers can be made into a tasty cold salad.

  • Storage

Product should be stored in a cool, dry area at a temperature not exceeding 20˚C, for an estimated shelf life of 12 months.
